Abstract

This paper delves into the multifaceted role of memory in contemporary society, examining its historical and artistic significance and how it shapes our personal and generational histories and futures. It also explores the therapeutic value of art as a tool for healing and the consequences of omitting certain memories from the archive.
Additionally, it analyses the impact of technological advances on the modern experience of memory. Drawing on Frances Yates's 'The Art of Memory,' the origins of mnemonic techniques are examined, while David Harvey's 'The Condition of Postmodernity' is referenced to illuminate the ambivalent nature of nostalgia.
Moreover, the nine selected artists showcase a shared theme of introspection on memory, yet each maintains their distinct experiences that delve into various paths, simultaneously connecting and diverging from one another.
