Abstract
Growing up in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, I discovered my passion for arts through my fine art teacher. Every two months, she would arrange visits to the Cecile Fakhoury gallery or the Donwhahi foundation. As I walked through these spaces, my imagination and mind expanded. These contemporary art platforms opened doors to me, giving me the opportunity to work in the arts. Cecile Fakhoury has proved that west African art offers great promise and growth since 2013. According to artsy, Aboudia was one of the top 20 selling artists in 2022. The 1-54 art fair, which has existed for 10 years, showcases African talents and shows that African art is on the rise. Besides restitution and patrimony, what are the existing spaces that provide archives, education, and contemporary art? During the past 5 years, luxury brands like Chanel have invested in Senegalese craftsmanship, establishing “metiers d’arts” in Paris and building in Aubervilliers (Parisian suborn) a participative creative space for artisans.
Bunzi is a multi-disciplany platform that offers a residency program, education and archives space for artists and socially engaged businesses in Abidjan. Bunzi will hosts an exhibition space space for creatives, a workshop space and atelier with a curated list of artisans, a cinematheque, performative venue for spectacles and master classes, and a shop.
