Abstract
Designs of Chinese furniture dominates large amount of international decorative art market since this catalogue enters the art market since the late Twentieth Century. Past incidence including Sotheby’s 1999 sale during Asia Week, the special sale of “Important Chinese Furniture” devoted Chinese decorative works of arts, exhibited and sold the collections of Chinese furniture which were made mostly from Seventeenth Century to Nineteenth Century. In this auction, a rare and rare zitan long recessed leg table have fetched the estimated price of $150,000 - 200,000.1 reasons that the traditional designs are attractive to the collectors from the analyzation of the material, design concept and historical theories. As for the innovative perspective, the contemporary furniture designers tend to develop their own brands from the late, to make changes of the market that most of the artworks are signed by manufacture years instead of known by the name of the designers. Meanwhile, the research will include the comparison of the furniture from the Ming and Qing dynasties to the contemporary furniture in the form of the traditional design elements.
