Abstract
From Exclusivity to Ambiguity: Rethinking Contemporary Ink Art and its Methodology explores the contemporary practices of ink art in the 21st century through a case study of female artist Bingyi, whose academic achievements juxtapose herself with traditional literati painters and artistic innovations upon such inking traditions developed upon her own philosophy associated with her life experience and personal interests. From Bingyi, I seek to demonstrate the diverse scope of contemporary ink painting practice while establishing a theory on methodology of investigating contemporary ink artist in the globalizing narratives by combining connoisseurship, biographical, and social art historical methods together, investigating the current stage contemporary ink art.
