Abstract
This study aims to explore how the arts ecosystem of Korea has developed and what historical events have facilitated the transition toward cultural globalization in Korea. This work examines the driving factors behind the recent emergence of the contemporary Korean art market since the 1980s. It surveys the establishments from different art sectors of the art market and how South Korea could be considered a contender for the next global art hub in Asia in the last four decades. It aims to paint the landscape of the art world by analyzing the impacts of historical events that have influenced the art market in South Korea.
