Abstract
The career of the Ivorian artist Aboudia has been an exceptional one. The goal of this thesis is to collect a comprehensive and trustable source of information about the artist. Actually, it has been one of my biggest challenges. I had to go to primary sources, and often confront them to find out the truth. The artist doesn’t have a website and only four or five books address his career and usually in less than a paragraph. That’s why this thesis has been made mainly through interviews and oversea travels I made. Even the gallerists who had worked with him for over a decade would have difficulties to establish the artist biography or his comprehensive CV. But they have been very responsive and supportive seeing the potential of my investigation. I researched this thesis with due diligence in the hope it will become a reference. The thesis is divided into four parts. First, I described the African Art market and the country of origin of Aboudia : Côte d’Ivoire. The second part is dedicated to the artist’s life and his practice. Thirdly, I made an analysis of his market. And I finish this writing with my prediction of his future career and value. This has been a real challenge to find information, especially in Côte d’Ivoire, but I am very grateful how this thesis has been the opportunity for me to travel overseas on three continents (Côte d’Ivoire, France and United States) and meet so many inspiring and diverse people who have known, educated, promoted this exceptional artist: Aboudia.
