Abstract
The curatorial proposal accounts for an exhibition on installation art done by Chinese contemporary artist Peng Wei, aiming to emphasize the artist’s unique approach towards tradition through contemporary practice. The exhibition, Good Things Come in Pairs, is compiled with the purpose to highlight the context behind contemporary artworks, indicating artist’s ideology through pairing. Peng Wei’s pieces will be paired with replicas or projections of objects and images she took inspirations from, flanked by additional ancient Chinese artworks from Peabody Essex Museum’s existing collection to make conversation with. Good Things Come in Pairs invites audience to engage thoughtfully with Peng Wei’s works of art, with the hope that they will get a better understanding of not only her works, but also contemporary art in general.
