Abstract
Logistics plays a critical role in maintaining the art industry’s ecosystem. With the United States, Great Britain, and China located across the globe and comprising 83% of the market, the smooth transfer of art is now more important than ever. The increasing number of international art fairs and biennales in conjunction with collectors, gallerists, and art advisors sourcing works from disparate locations has placed a premium on efficiency. While numerous logistics companies provide international white glove crating, storage, and transport of fine and decorative arts, they have inadequately managed the convoluted and often contradictory labyrinth of international and local laws that regulate the transport of protected plant and animal species. The PermitPlanner website would address this deficiency by using AI and scraping technology to index these regulations. This site has the potential to revolutionize the transfer of art, antique decorative items, animal parts, and taxidermy by assembling permit information, simplifying the acquisition of paperwork, and creating a cost-effective platform for collectors, independent artists, dealers, and galleries to import or export without the additional cost of brokerage firms and logistics companies. Moreover, this model has the potential to expand and include cultural heritage and patrimony regulations, estimated tariff costs, and suggested shipping route to required ports of entry.
