Abstract

This project outlines a business plan for the The Collective Art Project, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization run by its board of directors. The nonprofit aims to spread access to fine art through providing art rentals to the public and making bequests of artwork to art museums. As artwork prices sore, it is becoming more difficult to purchase and collect high-quality works of art. Given this factor, most individuals and businesses do not presently have the means or access to artworks by quality artists. The Collective Art Project seeks to provide rentals of limited edition prints and multiples by celebrated 20th century artists to fill this gap and expose more of the population to the visual arts.

Activities include renting artwork to donors, individuals, and businesses for temporary use and donating artwork to museums concentrating in the visual arts. Through rental operations, The Collective Art Project will facilitate the rotation of artworks between both novice and experienced collectors to minimize the time artworks spend in storage and maximize individuals’ time viewing and experiencing the artworks. After 10 years of ownership by The Collective Art Project, artworks will be donated to museums to be put to related use and enjoyed by the public for years to come.
