Abstract

Corporate art collecting has become increasingly evident within contemporary culture, a practice that boomed during the 1980s and 1990s. Since the mid twentieth century the evolution of the status of the art market has seen a continuous and decisive challenge of the institutional hierarchy of the art world.

An alternative asset class, investment in art has become increasingly popular, a commercial mechanism that has attracted larger banks and corporations to the field of art collecting. The approaches and successes of three acclaimed corporate collections, JPMorgan Chase, Deutsche Bank and UBS, identify the use of corporate collections and their role, facilitating corporate placement within cultural society.
