Abstract
This study analyses the current supply chain ecosystem surrounding the Indian luxury leather industry, with a focus on shoes. The primary objective of the practice-based research is to understand the sourcing and supply chain decision-making of luxury brands and construct an actionable model that helps luxury brands optimise sourcing, production and supply chain management for leather goods, mainly shoes, in India. While similar models already exist within the Indian market, this proposed framework will specifically address the gap in luxury-exclusive sourcing, with a focus on preserving brand exclusivity. The model will also provide guidance and support related to legal and regulatory compliance, helping brands navigate the state-specific policy requirements of India. The research would explore the perception challenges, legal and policy changes and opportunities associated with the model.
The study adopts qualitative research through semi-structured interviews with experts and existing secondary research, and then proposes the said model as the solution. The model will act like an International extension of the luxury brand, assembling tanneries, manufacturers, suppliers, etc, while focusing on matching the quality and sustainability requirements. Overall, the research is a deep dive into the luxury shoe industry and analyses the existing models and brands to propose a solution for the said gap.
