Abstract

In 1905 Las Vegas, Nevada was established. In the one hundred years since its founding, Las Vegas has rebranded itself countless times. While other western towns faded away, Las Vegas flourished by quickly pivoting to meet the needs of its core industry: tourism. Fremont Street paved the way for the future of the Strip, the family friendly destination quickly became Sin City, and the cheap fun get away transformed to the high-end luxury food and dining destination. Recently, this reimagining, this revitalization, has been focused on the burgeoning sports complex currently being developed throughout the city. The creation of the NHL Vegas Golden Knights, the new Las Vegas Aviators Minor League Baseball team / stadium, and the relocation of the NFL Raiders to Las Vegas, has the city poised to generate significant growth in population, capital, and prestige over the next few years, further solidifying Las Vegas as the Entertainment Capital of the world. Yet, over in the 18b Arts District, Arts4Nevada – a nonprofit arts organization that has been around for over a decade – had to close its doors due to lack of funding.(1)

It is with this population growth and art organization demise in mind, that a new idea for a community arts organization was created. TINYx is a Southern Nevada nonprofit arts organization that aims to expand access to the contemporary arts into every community in the Las Vegas valley. By way of a traveling exhibition space, this organization provides young emerging artists and art professionals the opportunity to showcase their talents outside of the 18b Arts District and break into an otherwise disengaged community. TINYx provides the space, financial support, and professional guidance to artists to ensure the successful execution of exhibitions.

The lack of arts organizations within the community presents an issue for artists and professionals seeking to engage creatively. TINYx looks to give these young emerging creatives the opportunity to showcase their work while building their portfolio / CV and engaging directly with the community. Through membership, events, and exhibitions all levels of creatives and community members are invited to join TINYx and assist in the shared growth, learning, and experience of contemporary art.
